Title: Technical Designer
Company Description: Children’s Apparel Company
Location: New York, New York
Salary: $75,000-$90,000

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed tech packs, including specifications, technical sketches, and construction details.
  • Conduct and assist in fit sessions, providing clear and precise corrections to vendors.
  • Partner with factories and vendors to troubleshoot issues related to fit, construction, and quality.
  • Utilize PLM software to track styles, tech packs, and sample progress (experience in any PLM system is acceptable).
  • Review, measure, and approve samples at all development stages, ensuring adherence to brand standards.
  • Provide detailed comments on fit, construction, and quality to ensure production-ready garments.
  • Work closely with the design, production, and merchandising teams to align technical specifications with cost and market needs.
  • Manage grading rules and ensure consistent sizing across toddler and big kids’ apparel.
  • Maintain clear documentation of pattern adjustments, sample notes, and vendor communication.
  • Pattern-making experience is highly preferred to enhance fit and construction problem-solving.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of technical design experience in children’s apparel, preferably within off-price retail.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, grading, and pattern-making (pattern-making experience is a plus).
  • Experience with PLM software (any system is acceptable).
  • Expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and spec development.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication, trims, and cost-effective production methods.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills for vendor collaboration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field preferred.
