Title: Technical Design Assistant (Freelance)
Reports to: Technical Design Director
Location: DTLA – Hybrid, 3-4 days in office.
Start: ASAP
End: roughly 3 months
Hours: 30-40 hours per week
Pay range: $22/hr
Hourly rate is commensurate with experience and is an estimated range provided by JBC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate with the Product Development team to confirm all garments have undergone a pre-fitting check.
  • Pre-measure and spec garments ahead of fittings to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Organize racks prior to fittings to facilitate an efficient fitting process.
  • Maintain and manage fit notes and tracking systems for the entire department.
  • Photograph fittings to document adjustments and changes for review.
  • Prepare and steam all samples before fittings to ensure proper presentation.
  • Manage the fit rack, ensuring that all necessary samples are readily accessible and organized.
  • Ensure that previous samples are on the rack before each fitting to maintain continuity and efficiency.
  • Time the fittings to optimize session productivity and adherence to the schedule.
  • Distribute the fit list to involved parties to keep the team informed and prepared.
  • Check samples before fittings and act as a liaison with the Product Development team to address any discrepancies.
  • Organize the sample closets and ensure samples are accessible and up to date.
  • Assist the Technical Designer department in measuring garments to uphold quality standards.

EDUCATION: College degree required

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1+ year of experience in Technical Design or Patternmaking at a fashion brand
  • Experience with dresses, eveningwear, or special occasion 
  • Experience measuring garments and applying to spec sheets
  • Proficiency in PC operation, MS office and Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software
  • Familiarity with CLO3D
  • Understanding of Technical Design process and product construction
  • Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
  • Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands
  • Ability to demonstrate proactive problems solving skills
