Position Overview
- The Designer will design, color, merchandise and follow the development process from initial concept through to production for all categories according to the customer’s needs including but not limited to scarves, coldweather, outerwear, gloves, beachwear, hats, and bags from concept through production approval.
Principal Relationships
- The Designer will regularly work closely with Design, Product Development, Production and Sales teams. Will collaborate with Creative Services on product photography.
Travel:
- The Designer will travel to factories, customers, and design events on an as needed basis.
Example Daily Tasks:
- Under the direction of the Creative Director, establish seasonal concepts, color and product direction to
support merchandising plan for each private label customer according to their needs across multiple
product categories. - Oversee, manage, and delegate work for Associate Designer.
- Develop trend boards for presentations.
- Create and manage updates for design boards and line sheets.
- Create and manage detailed technical packages for all designs including specs, sketches, developing
layouts, pitching color, and providing detailed technical direction. - Review samples; Provide design, construction, and fit comments to factories.
- Manage communication with factories and other vendor partners to respond to questions in a timely
manner to ensure development is on calendar. - Collaborate with PD partners on developments and pricing.
- Collaborate with vendors/resources to develop new yarns, materials, fabrications, and trims; Maintain
library. - Assist with showroom set-up as needed.
Skills/Characteristics
- Bachelors or master’s degree in Fashion Design.
- 7+ years of design experience with special focus on Knitwear and/or Cold Weather accessories.
- Must have strong knowledge of fully-fashioned knitwear: yarns, gauges, stitches, construction as well as
weaving techniques, materials and other fabrications. - Strong skills developing detailed technical packages: specs, sketches, and technical direction
- Excellent artistic/drawing skills with a high level of creativity.
- Must be proficient in Illustrator. Kaleido or Ned Graphics experience a plus.
- Ability to render stitches/artwork digitally in a variety of techniques and styles.
- Exceptional taste and eye for color.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through. Strong communication, presentation, and team skill
